Bubba
Pug Partners of Nebraska - A Nebraska pug rescue
http://www.pugpartners.com/ I remember when Bubba came into the rescue. One of our site searchers found him as a surrender in Des Moines, Iowa. His prior owner left him outdoors all night and all day for all 6 years of his life. I will never forget trying to pry this little guy from the back corner of his kennel in the back of our transporters SUV. He was relatively small, and a really nice almost white coloring to his fur. Immediately I noticed the strong odor coming from his eye. His right eye was squinted and shriveled to more than ½ the size smaller than his left eye, and was very full of puss. It was obvious that eye, or what was left of it, would not last long. Bubba stayed at the vets office while he recovered from his Neuter and his eye removal for about three days. The giant E-collar around his head to prevent him from itching his stitches, really added to his discomfort. Once he was ready to go into foster care, since I wanted to pick him up before the vet office closed, I went over my lunch hour, and he came back to work with me until I could get him to his foster home. Needless to say he was still extremely shy and would curl into a ball anytime you came near him. Despite his shyness, he was an instant hit at my office! His foster home continued to work on his terrified personality and brought him to all of the adoption events where he was not getting much interest because he would curl up in a corner. After several events of just holding him close around other dogs, he slowly ventured out of your arms and out with the other dogs. It was at an outdoor event one morning when Bubba met his forever family. He met a middle aged couple who had recently lost their elderly pug. Bubba's cool, calm and collective demeanor and one eye caught their attention. They held him and walked him and told us that they would be back, and sure enough they where. Today, Bubba comes to some of our adoption events to visit us, he has made a world of progress towards becoming a confident young man. He is a star on his families Flika website, where he runs all around his new back yard. It took a special family to adopt Bubba, but the fact that his new dad custom made a “one eyed pug” t-shirt, tells me that this little guy will never have another worry in the world. In total we have a $1,500 vet bill for Bubba |
